Celebrate the Season at The Ridge

The community you choose to call home is so important, and The Ridge once again is showing why it is becoming such a popular neighbourhood in Courtenay. A friendly competition is underway between neighbours for their third annual holiday lighting contest. Many residents are participating in creating a festive atmosphere for the entire community to enjoy. The holiday season is the time when the neighbours come together to lift the spirits of everyone who visit the area.

The community's first Christmas decoration contest was held in 2019, when a few of the residents joined together to acknowledge the homeowners who went above and beyond to decorate their homes and yards for the holdiay season. The residents established criteria, made the top choices and Buckstone Developments awarded prizes to the homeowners.

This year the friendly-judging will take place mid-December. The winners and honourable mentions will be posted on The Ridge Facebook page - stay tuned!

In the meantime, take the time to drive or stroll through The Ridge neighbourhood. The results are truly beautiful as most of the homes are lit up with both traditional and creative lighting displays. People of all ages will be dazzled by the festive displays. Take a breath and enjoy these special moments.

Wide boulevards and sidewalks are an invitation to all residents to come and explore. Holiday Lights Show Brightens Up the Season at The Ridge in Courtenay

Residents of The Ridge in Courtenay are eager to share why they love living at The Ridge. The sense of community is important in this new Courtenay neighbourhood, and this sense of community was very strong over the holiday season.

When winter nights were dark and gloomy at the end of a challenging year, residents of The Ridge did their best to brighten the spirits of their neighbours and light up the neighbourhood. Christmas lights and decorations were on full display throughout the community. Residents at The Ridge went above and beyond and created a festive Christmas atmosphere.

The first of what will become and annual Christmas decorating contest was born when a few residents banded together to acknowledge the neighbours who put extra effort into decorateing their homes for the holiday season. A few residents were surprised when they received acknowledgment of their efforts in the firstsurprise Christmas contest held at The Ridge.

The residents from these homes were surprised and happy to receive a small gift towards their efforts, as no official Christmas Lighting Contest had been declared. Now it is official! There will be annual lighting contests moving forward at The Ridge. It is an event that will bring out a friendly competition amongst the residents for years to come and promotes the community for everyone to enjoy.

Establishing this neighbourhood contest, inspired by the actions of others in their community, is one of the many reasons The Ridge is such a welcoming place to call home.

In the summer the community hosts an annual block party in the park, and on a daily basis friends and neighbours stop to chat, go for walks, play in the park, and enjoy the neighbourhood and the people in it.

Outdoor Adventures Are Calling in the Comox Valley

Vancouver Island is well known for having some of the warmest and most temperate weather in Canada, making it a popular place to call home. Coastal communities such as Courtenay enjoy warm dry summers and mild winters sprinkled with rain and the occasional day or two of snow.

The Comox Valley, which includes the city of Courtenay, town of Comox, the village of Cumberland, and a number of unincorporated communities, is easily one of the most desirable places to live in Canada. This Vancouver Island coastal community offers easy access to a huge range of year-round outdoor recreational activities.

The weather is mild enough to go surfing and kite boarding year-round. In the winter months, when a storm rolls onto Vancouver Island, the biggest swells are active, prompting surfers and boarders to put on their wetsuits and head to the nearest beach.

If you are a diving enthusiast, explore the rocky reef at Flora Inlet on the edge of Hornby Island where you might spot the elusive Six-gill Shark between April and September. You can also take a dive at the Royston Wrecks, a man-made breakwater of sunken ships along the shoreline where water visibility is excellent. For a unique underwater adventure, snorkel with the salmon in local streams and rivers.

With the right outdoor gear, you can do pretty much any activity in the winter in the Comox Valley. For instance, the golf courses are open year round and you can play golf at seven public courses almost any day of the year. Many people have relocated to the Comox Valley because of their love for mountain biking. Here you will find hundreds of trails, from beginner to advanced in Cumberland, Mount Washington, Forbidden Plateau and other areas throughout the Valley. The region is a hotspot with many mountain bikers coming from other provinces and countries to compete!

Are you ready to make the move? New ocean and mountain view homes at The Ridge in Courtenay are now ready for you. New homes are selling quickly in Phase 3A, and more lots are now available for custom homes. Contact one of the preferred builders at The Ridge to learn more.

Why is Everyone Moving to The Comox Valley?

Step away from a frantic urban lifestyle and enjoy a more laid back, relaxing way of life in the Comox Valley, a piece of paradise on Vancouver Island.

Located on the east coast of central Vancouver Island, with a growing population of 65,000, the region welcomes people from across Canada who choose to enjoy the year-round outdoor recreation activities and extensive amenities that the communities offer. The median age of residents here is 48 and the population includes families, retirees and young people.

The Comox Valley offers all of the critical things that create a strong, liveable community:

  • Recently, a new hospital was built in Courtenay. There are doctors and other medical professionals who are taking on new patients in our community. Having these facilities close by is comforting for those seeking medical care.
  • North Island College has programs for students of all ages and has an Elder College program for learners over 55.

Spring has Sprung on Vancouver Island

Spring has sprung on Vancouver Island. Flowers have been out for months already and the cherry and plum blossoms are now lighting up the streets with their pink glow.

One of the primary reasons people relocate to Vancouver Island is because of the temperate, year-round climate - an added benefit of this is the area's long gardening season. Early signs of spring like crocuses and daffodils typically pop up in February with a rainbow of tulips close behind. These flowers start to appear in March and April along with the helleborus and camellias.

The streets look beautiful when the cherry and plum trees bloom, showing off their magnificent canopies in a variety of shades of pink.

Once April and May warm up, the colourful rhododendrons (which can grow to size of trees here!) and native dogwoods show off their spectacular blooms.

Relocating to The Ridge on Vancouver Island

Families and retirees are looking to relocate where they can enjoy a temperate climate and live in a vibrant community. In Courtenay, the recreation opportunities are endless - at The Ridge, you'll live just 20 minutes from numerous golf courses, hiking, snow sports, world class mountain biking, water sports, fishing, beach walks and other outside activities.

The Ridge in the Courtenay offers easy access to an active, outdoor lifestyle, with a variety of new homes to choose from. This friendly community is also just a 20 minute drive to the Comox Airport (YQQ).

Current homeowners at The Ridge have come from across BC and Canada to discover the beauty of our ocean and mountain view neighbourhood. The Ridge is located in the city of Courtenay in the Comox Valley, an outdoor lover’s paradise.

They are now starting development of a modern patio home project at The Ridge called Tanglewood.

Monterra Projects are now conducting a soft launch of Tanglewood and pre-sales are being offered on the Phase 1 patio homes.

In some floor plans, the master bedroom is located at the back of the home, overlooking the landscaped backyard. Large ensuites feature cabinet lighting, heated tile flooring, and custom tiled walls in the shower. These homes also offer a laundry room that will accomodate a side by side washer and dryer. A large single-car garage and additional parking for two cars in the driveway round out the space.
