Could a New Home at The Ridge be the Perfect Christmas Gift?
Developers and builders at The Ridge in Courtenay have noticed a trend of more and more people are relocating to the Comox Valley from lagrer urban centres. Familes and retirees are moving to enjoy the small-city charm, while still having access to all of the important amenities - including a new hospital, North Island College, a variety of shopping venues and the Comox Valley Airport.
The Comox Valley on Vancouver Island is considered one of the most desirable places in Canada to live due to its close proximity to the ocean and many beaches, its mild climate and limitless year-round recreational options, all of which are available just a short walk, pedal or drive away. The Ridge is located in Courtenay, which is well known for having some of the warmest and most temperate weather in Canada. As a result, the area enjoys warm, dry summers and experiences mild, rainy winters with little to no snow.
Real estate activity has been brisk on Vancouver Island for several months, with the Vancouver Island Real Estate Board reporting that sales of single-family homes increased in November 2020 by 33 per cent over November 2019. Rising home sales are due to a combination of factors, including extremely low interest rates, a lack of inventory and the lifestyle trend of families working and studying from home.
The builders at The Ridge know that people are thinking ahead to next year, and considering the move to a new home, or even a new community for the Christmas season in 2021.
Now is the perfect time to consider building a new custom home at The Ridge. Developers have just released 61 new lots in Phase 3B that are available through their preferred builders. Take a tour of this phase via aerial video and you can see the stunning ocean views from The Ridge.

Outdoor Adventures Are Calling in the Comox Valley
Vancouver Island is well known for having some of the warmest and most temperate weather in Canada, making it a popular place to call home. Coastal communities such as Courtenay enjoy warm dry summers and mild winters sprinkled with rain and the occasional day or two of snow.
The Comox Valley, which includes the city of Courtenay, town of Comox, the village of Cumberland, and a number of unincorporated communities, is easily one of the most desirable places to live in Canada. This Vancouver Island coastal community offers easy access to a huge range of year-round outdoor recreational activities.
The weather is mild enough to go surfing and kite boarding year-round. In the winter months, when a storm rolls onto Vancouver Island, the biggest swells are active, prompting surfers and boarders to put on their wetsuits and head to the nearest beach.
If you are a diving enthusiast, explore the rocky reef at Flora Inlet on the edge of Hornby Island where you might spot the elusive Six-gill Shark between April and September. You can also take a dive at the Royston Wrecks, a man-made breakwater of sunken ships along the shoreline where water visibility is excellent. For a unique underwater adventure, snorkel with the salmon in local streams and rivers.
With the right outdoor gear, you can do pretty much any activity in the winter in the Comox Valley. For instance, the golf courses are open year round and you can play golf at seven public courses almost any day of the year. Many people have relocated to the Comox Valley because of their love for mountain biking. Here you will find hundreds of trails, from beginner to advanced in Cumberland, Mount Washington, Forbidden Plateau and other areas throughout the Valley. The region is a hotspot with many mountain bikers coming from other provinces and countries to compete!
Are you ready to make the move? New ocean and mountain view homes at The Ridge in Courtenay are now ready for you. New homes are selling quickly in Phase 3A, and more lots are now available for custom homes. Contact one of the preferred builders at The Ridge to learn more.

BC Homes Sales Forecast to Be Strong in 2021
According to the BC Real Estate Association's third-quarter housing forecast, MLS residential sales are set to increase by 6.5 percent by the end of 2020, and even more for 2021, with predicted increase of 17.6 percent next year.
In the Comox Valley, real estate appraiser Chris Kutyn said in his monthly market update for September 2020 that the Comox Valley area will continue to see upward pressure home prices: “The single-family statistics for August point to a rising average price in the Comox Valley. The market is quite active and even aggressive at times.”
According to the Vancouver Island Real Estate Board, the average price of a home in the Comox Valley in August 2020 was $601,913 up 5% from the average sale price compared to the same time period last year.
Some of this imapct is due to Coivd-19. Families are looking at their homes in a different light - needing a dedicated home office to accommodate working from home, or a separate area for schooling from home as well. As people spend more time at home, many families want more space, both indoors and outdoors. The Ridge community in south Courtenay has recently welcomed several new residents to The Ridge who are relocating to the Comox Valley from larger, more urban cities, perhaps to reduce exposure to a larger population. With interest rates at an all-time low, more people are making the move to get into the market or to move into a bigger home.
What does this mean for you, if you are looking to purchse or build a new home? If you have been thinking of building a new home in Courtenay on Vancouver Island, now is the time to shift into action. The sales activity of new homes and lots has increased significantly during the past few months at The Ridge. Homes and new lots are selling at a brisker pace than at any other time since they started building this development six years ago. Nearly all of the existing new homes by their preferred builders have been sold. Our existing inventory of lots and homes in Phase 3A is 80% sold and the remaining lots will likely be sold in the next few months. To meet market demand, The Ridge will be introducing their newest and final phase - 61 new lots in Phase 3B - in the fall of this year.
Get started by contacting one of their preferred builders to arrange a consultation regarding a custom home build or to view one of the homes that is under construction. Our inventory of new lots is getting lower every month. Contact us for more information about the remaining lots in Phase 3A or about the upcoming 61 lots in Phase 3B.

Spring has Sprung on Vancouver Island
Spring has sprung on Vancouver Island. Flowers have been out for months already and the cherry and plum blossoms are now lighting up the streets with their pink glow.
One of the primary reasons people relocate to Vancouver Island is because of the temperate, year-round climate - an added benefit of this is the area's long gardening season. Early signs of spring like crocuses and daffodils typically pop up in February with a rainbow of tulips close behind. These flowers start to appear in March and April along with the helleborus and camellias.
The streets look beautiful when the cherry and plum trees bloom, showing off their magnificent canopies in a variety of shades of pink.
Once April and May warm up, the colourful rhododendrons (which can grow to size of trees here!) and native dogwoods show off their spectacular blooms.
