Budget Blinds on Vancouver Island offers in-home consultations with designers who can help you find the perfect window coverings for your home. This month we feature a spotlight on designer Rebeccah Kurucz.
Rebeccah is an “old soul” with a very cheerful and enthusiastic disposition.
She grew up working in her family’s business in Port Alberni, before pursuing her passion attending school for interior design. She worked for several years at a design firm before making the transition to Budget Blinds.
“Window coverings play such an important role in the overall look and feel of your home,” says Rebeccah. “I wanted to work more closely with my customers and assist them to put those finishing touches into their homes. Helping my clients to make their homes look beautiful is truly rewarding, and I love being a part of the whole process.”
Rebeccah says her favorite window covering look currently is roller shades with drapery.
“The simplistic, hard lines of a quality roller shade coupled with soft, flowing, cascades of drapery can transform a space. Of course, every home is different so it’s fun to play with colour and texture to make it unique.”
The biggest trend she is seeing is a return to soft window coverings.
“Many of my clients are moving back to soft treatments. They have been pairing traditional blinds with a Roman Shade in the kitchen as well as adding decorative panels to soften their windows. Soft fashions are back!”
Outside of work, Rebeccah loves to spend her time outdoors.
“Basically, if it is outdoors I’m into it! I really love camping and hiking! I love being around the water. I love the ocean, the rivers and the lakes that are all so close. The Island allows you to enjoy nature all year round.
“I also am a huge sports fan and am very passionate about interior design!”
Book an appointment today to meet with Rebeccah and review the latest trends and design options for your home and lifestyle.
How does it work? A design consultant will come to you and bring samples that you can view in the comfort of your home. They will help you choose your window coverings, and professionally measure. Once ordered, your window coverings will be installed by one of Budget Blinds’ experienced on-staff installers.
Budget Blinds of Nanaimo and Oceanside is locally owned and operated. The staff is a close-knit group of people, who live locally, have a passion for Vancouver Island living and look forward to making your experience the best it can be.

As the summer heats up, consider what your window coverings are doing to keep you cool. Windows are a key component of the energy efficiency of your home, and the right window treatments from Budget Blinds of the North Island can be a great way to improve the heating or cooling of your home. Blinds, shades, shutters and drapes all provide effective insulation to keep you cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
Budget Blinds has a variety of window treatment options to choose from, to ensure your home is both comfortable and looks great! One popular option is cellular shades, with their honeycomb-shaped pockets which keep air from escaping or entering your home, protecting you from the elements.
Window film is also a great way to deflect nearly all of the damaging UV rays that fade and damage flooring and furniture, while also keeping the heat out of your home. Optional motorization on blinds lets you set your blinds on a timer, meaning even while you're away at work or on vacation, your blinds will open and close at the best time to keep the heat in or out.
Not sure what blinds, shades, shutters, or drapes might work best for your home? Schedule a free consultation with a Budget Blinds designer, who can help you choose the window treatments that work best with your home to create a comfortable environment for your family and guests while also providing you with long-term energy savings.

Residents of The Ridge in Courtenay have many reasons to "Love living at The Ridge."
One couple, Brianna and Jeremy, told 1stView about many of the benefits their family enjoys in their new home at The Ridge. They moved into their new custom home at The Ridge in March, 2019.
The couple said they looking for a safe and quiet neighbourhood for their family and their two young children. They bought a home built by one of The Ridge's preferred builders, Brando Construction.
“We were looking at quite a few homes in different locations and the first time we visited The Ridge we fell in love with it, because of the layout of the neighbourhood, the walking trails for our dog, and the amazing mountain and ocean views. We can even see the Mainland mountains from here! We immediately enjoyed a very welcoming feeling driving into The Ridge."
The family enjoys the easy access to outdoor activities, and have noticed their neighbours are also busy exploring the Comox Valley.
“We love being outdoors! Most of the places we like to go to - like Comox Lake and Cumberland - are only a 15 minute drive away. We often see like-minded neighbours getting ready to pursue their favorite outdoor activities on the weekends."
Additionally their new home is close to all of the day-to-day needs:
“The Ridge is also close to grocery stores, shopping and the airport is only 20 minutes away. I travel frequently for work and easy and quick access to the Comox Valley Airport is important," Brianna explained.
And the community has quickly become home for the entire family, thanks to friendly neighbours and community amenities.
“There is a relaxed atmosphere in the neighbourhood, and strong sense of community. Last night we went to the local park here, only a few minutes from our home and there were four other families at the park. The kids ran towards each other and played together and we had a visit with the neighbours. Even though we have only been here a few months, we all know each other’s names, the childrens’ names and we even know the dogs’ names! Our children feel very comfortable going to the park, and we know that they are safe in our neighbourhood. We visit the park daily and sometimes multiple times in the same day.
“Soccer, lacrosse and frisbee activities are frequently played in the park and it is also a great area to play with our dog. We often see celebrations being held in the park as well. We feel a great sense of community here.
“Life at The Ridge is very family-friendly, there is a nice mix of young families who interact with each other, retirees and other residents of all ages. There are very few vehicles on the roads - only neighbourhood traffic - and the roundabouts help calm the traffic.
“When I walk the dog, even early in the morning, I say ‘hi’ to at least 10 people. We have the best neighbours and we have quickly become friends."
Brianna & Jeremy, residents at THE RIDGE.
